BeschreibungSalman Rushdie is one of the most widely discussed of
contemporary writers. However the main scope of
discussion is still not his art, but rather the
never-ending 'Rushdie affair' around The Satanic
Verses. Under the shadow of these scandals he
undoubtedly brought wonderful new inventions to the
prose of the 20th/21st century. This book, therefore,
intends to explore the heterogeneic literary features
that manifest in Midnight's Children, his most
highly regarded novel. Main focus is on how he is
widening the boundaries of the genre by comprising
various kinds of novel types into one text.
Furthermore the role of memory in storytelling is
analysed together with the parallel existence of
individual and historical sense of time. Besides the
different layers of fiction, the compoundity of
Saleem, the protagonist's character and his method of
storytelling is also considered in detail along with
Rushdie's unique language usage. This analysis should
be useful to people interested in Salman Rushdie?s
novel writing technique and his character delineation.
